I wanted this Speak, Hear, See to be the F* Yea meme (the one which ends with a stickman and the words f* yea) but since my mum is my censorship board director I've decided to change it to just a simple I'm goin crazy.

Angry birds revenge

It's been too long. So sorry for the absence. Been busy as usual in real life as well as on FB! What else.

This idea has been with me for a long time. I originally wanted to draw Colonel Sanders in the second frame defending his "chickys" But when Angry Birds stormed into the scene I knew it was perfect.

The McDonald's McChicken Supreme ad drew some controversy at that time it was aired. Firstly, it was not shot in a proper McD restaurant. Then there were the chopsticks and bowls which is not given at all in McDs. Personally, I just found the ad annoying and irritating because of the jingle/ song.

I was watching the local news the other day and they were airing a special report on our locally grown mangoes. The segment made me go "ooh!" but guess what? The best part was when they packed the mangoes into the box...which was printed: For Japan.

So crappy. Here they are promoting the local fruits but in the end it's meant for the export market?! ??!! Recently in the news our local durians will be sent to China starting next year. Thus many are saying that you better eat all the durians this year because by next year there won't be any more tasty durians!! And some also said that the prices for durians will go up. Unbelievable.

Yeah...Ronald McDonald has been retired...err sort of! More like put into storage... I didn't know that until I read the latest Time magazine... I did notice the revamped McD restaurants since last year... Apparently they're moving towards a new theme McCafe style.

Come to think of it, I remembered that my friend inquired about their kiddie calendar some years back and the guy behind the counter said they don't have it anymore. My friend was quite sad but I guess it was a gradual process of a company moving with the times...

I guess our McD experience now will be kinda different without that red and white stripe...yellow jumpsuit fella... ... also a reminder that we're all grown up now... and growing old soon ...

Guilty as charged? Well, it's up to you really ... This past week there was a collection by the company for the Japan earthquake (for the Japan office branch)... I gave some through the church so I didn't give via the workplace.

Sometimes I cringe when ppl come up to me to ask for donations... Why you ask me? It's because I'd think of the NKF Singapore, the president was living in the lap of luxury from the money donated to the foundation... And the blind man who earns at least RM3000 every month by just sitting at his spot...or the syndicate that uses blind ppl to get money...

Then I'd think of the song by Smash Mouth- All Star...that goes like this..

"Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change..."

So...would anyone like to donate to my toy bank??

And yes, there were a lot of ppl buying toys at the warehouse sale... But the toys were really cheap compared to its retail price...

My friend used to complain about the position of her workspace...saying there was a constant "cold air" coming from behind her. The "cold air" wasn't really the air-con but rather the awareness that our boss might be looking at what you're doing.

I sat at her place a couple of times when she was on leave and I did feel the cold air! Worse still is that he walks with no sound... So he could just appear right behind you without you knowing... Better not be fb-ing yo! Or talking bad about him if you know what I mean...

I always thought I was the only one experiencing slow broadband connection... It was not until I saw the status updates on FB by several friends...on numerous occasions that I realised I wasn't the only one!

My cousin called the telco's helpline recently and the customer service personnel there said that the current broadband is being slowed down to make way for their high speed broadband. (HSBB) ??!! No kidding. again!!

Yeah, so if you're really unhappy with their connection speed you could always switch.

I remember back in the day when The Matrix was all hyped up... Almost everyone wanted to look like Neo (Keanu Reeves) Oakley was also on the scene at that time providing super cool modern sleek sunglasses... I also remember a funny story my friend told me... Someone in her class (High school back then ) brought a pair of Oakley glasses...and even the ugliest guy in the class actually looked cool when he put it on!

Yeah, X-Men was around that time too. But it seemed like there wasn't a pair of sunnies (sunglasses as some would call them ) that looked like the one Cyclops wore in the movie... until now.

So the next time when you put on a pair of 3D glasses, remember that you could be the next superhero!

3D glasses

The office backroom was abuzz recently when Panasonic launched their 3D Full HD TV named Viera... Their ad was in all the newspapers...some with the extra bonus of a pair of 3D glasses.

Prior to that, there was a mysterious advert with just an eerie pair of eyes on a full black page. I asked one of the ladies if she knew what ad that was but she didn't know. My answer came the very next day...

Anyways the free newspaper The Sun was snapped up within half an hour! All because of the glasses... That reminded me of Optimus in the first Transformers movie... Enjoy!

I hope I drew something more in general this time around! Well, it seems like I'm always bullying my skater friend right?! Don't worry, this didn't happen at all...In fact, I'm not even a gamer!

The idea for this strip came about while I was watching an episode of Click on BBC some time back... They featured Wii Sports with its wireless game console...using infra-red to detect movement... Also featured was the future of wireless 3D gaming...with those 3D glasses...

It's really amazing how technology has advanced so much...I still remember the early games with Nintendo and Sega... (Yes, I'm that old! ) And also movies with virtual reality concepts....The Matrix...etc

I also remember a gaming arcade which had the first few "virtual reality" machines ...it kinda looked like capsules (once inside you really feel like you're in the vehicle or something like those air plane pilot simulation...)...about five of them that links up with one another and the game is about military combat... (Army tanks I think Can't remember that much! ) Actually I think that was the start of network gaming as well... Counter strike etc...

Now with the future of 3D gaming it's like you're in/ part of the game itself... Almost like The Matrix...Avatar... Thinking about it just makes me wonder even more... Imagine really "being" in a game ... Can be scary and crazy at the same time...

Oh well, I just we should just enjoy the ride...erm...I mean the game!

The real Slash rocks

Yup, Slash was in town...He performed at the Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon on Fri. I should have drawn this earlier as the concert advertisement was in the papers weeks before that... But the idea only came after reading his press conference on Fri itself ...Slash said he loves the wildlife in Malaysia...

Going back to the comic strip...I've entitled it so as I felt it might mislead some... I showed my mum the comic and she said it might get me into trouble with a lawsuit or something... or his fans might kill me...

The actual idea was sort of my skater friend trying to dress up as Slash but failing miserably... So I hope it didn't run far from that...It's like someone trying to dress up like their favourite rock/pop star but they're not 100% the same/ good as the original... Slash, Slash fans...I apologise if you feel offended in any way... I will try to draw something more in general the next time...

Stamp cookware redemption

This marketing strategy never gets old... I still remember the first few stamp redemption bonanza held by a department store... Items ranging from towels to cookware, porcelain/ chinaware to wine glasses...

Recently Giant Hypermarket had their stamp cookware redemption. For every RM20 (USD 5.70 approx) spent you will gain a stamp. With the stamps you could purchase an imported pot/ pan from Italy for a fraction of the price. But don't be too excited yet, because the minimum stamps required range from 90- 200 stamps!!

Yup, if you do the maths you'd realise that you've spent RM1800 (USD 514 approx) at their store already... And you would still have to pay for the pot/ pan!! But that's less than RM10. (USD 2.85)

Nevertheless, we managed to collect the stamps only to find out that all the cookware was redeemed/ snapped up.

And who says that Malaysians aren't a gullible bunch??

This week's strip idea has been in my head for some time already. It came about when my good online friend ~outlawserenade tweeted about someone who wanted to borrow money from her or something like that...(Sorry! Can't remember ) And that reminded me of my old schoolmates who somehow (conveniently? ) forgotten that they borrowed money and never paid back.

The issue is not about being a scrooge and not lending money to your friends... but rather remembering to return the money later. So, pay up ppl!

Well, not like they'll ever remember or stumble upon this blog entry.

The original 360 cam

I've been wanting to draw The Matrix idea for ages already but somehow it couldn't fit in with anything... Finally had the idea while watching The Golden Globes on E!... They were featuring the Glam Cam 360 and I knew I had to draw this...

I'm not sure if any of you have seen the making of The Matrix... It was the revolutionary concept/ idea of that time to use multiple cameras which was arranged in a 360 and going off at the same time while the stunt was done. The individual images were combined later to give that "360 degrees spin" effect which we all now see (and expect? ) in movies.

Yup, cinematography has grown much from there to what we see now in Avatar.

TM vs P1 Wimax

Ever since the TM commercial aired: [link] I've been thinking about it ... Don't get me wrong, I do think it's a pretty cool ad...Not to mention a really catchy tune too!

It's a good thing that the song, "Through my window" (performed by a local band Bunkface) stuck and everyone begun to associate it with TM. They even had a massive sing-a-long concert recently...

Alright, sorry for the late strip this week...I didn't have the mood to draw anything until this morning! I couldn't think of how to draw the other TV commercial ideas and I owe my mum this one! We were watching and Astro (our local tv cable company) aired this teaching English segment...

Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the idea, in fact it is a good idea...esp. with the recent decision by the government to revert teaching Science and Maths back to Bahasa Melayu.

I'm just wondering if it will work or not, that's all... And yes, I'm 100% Malaysian...so I still tend to speak with my 'lahs' !!

I've decided to take a break from commercials themed strips this week... So here's one from my daily life...

Yes, my mum misread the information on the notice sent by the water company. In fact, she read it wrongly three times! At first, she said our street wasn't affected... then she realised it was. The second time, she thought it was from 9am-6pm... but it was 9pm- 6am instead.

At 9pm, she wondered why the water was still running so she read it again....and apparently it is scheduled for NEXT week.

All that washing and rushing in vain.

Remember ppl, read the information properly to avoid unnecessary panic. Or worry. Or insanity.

Solar panels to roast chicken

Something light hearted this week... Not in much of a mood to do anything really...

This is an idea from a short (very short) news flashed on CNN or BBC (Can't remember! ) Someone has invented the first solar panelled oven~ and it is really huge! It kinda looks like a big satellite dish... and the chicken were roasting like Kenny Rogers style on the opposite side of where the solar panels were facing. The oven is good for the environment as it uses alternative energy.

"I've got no time!" The phrase was adapted from the Astro commercial some years ago. The original phrase was: "I've got time!" The advertisement was for Astro's recording decoder (DSR~ Digital Satellite Receiver~ Recorder)

It starts with a boss who is able to interact with all levels of his employees because he watches all the TV shows. When asked where he has the time to watch all those shows, he'd reply: "I've got time!" And the commercial ends with the boss back at home watching all the shows which he programmed the decoder to record...at his own free time. Corny, I know! But the phrase stuck in my head!

Drawing note: It was such a pain trying to draw all those logos. And adding in the wall clock was even worse! I wanted to show the whole day has passed by with me playing on the internet ... the pain was the line thickness for the minute and second hands of the clock.

"I've got no time!" Sigh... I guess it's time for me to find a new job. Really.

Reduce carbon emission

Yup, that's Mr. Ban Ki Moon! Well, I know the arctic visit was like ages ago... but I guess I'm still on time with the UN general assembly this week in New York!

I saw the news report on Mr. Ban and then I changed channels (Oops! Sorry! ) and there was another report on how some low cost carriers are staying afloat during this economic downturn by introducing a monthly pass...so ppl can travel more and when ppl fly more means more flights...more flights means more carbon emission??!!

I found it rather amusing so I decided to highlight it.

Mr. Ban would prolly have a fit if he saw that news report... but then again, the company might say that the number of flights are already determined so it's their way of making sure the plane doesn't fly empty.

Bad influence

Well, this week's strip isn't meant to be funny... (in case any of you don't get it! ) It's more of an awareness of the power of media...and that they should think twice before airing anything.

Recently, I saw a local coffee commercial on the and I felt it was rather distasteful. It was meant to be funny but it really wasn't. The commercial shows a man drinking coffee and suddenly realises that an angry mob is after him (presumably some gangsters wanting to collect a loan? ) So the guy splashes his hot coffee on the mob. Upon tasting the delicious coffee on their faces the mob started to sing and dance (yes, Saturday night fever style )... and the man also dances with them.

That commercial reminded me of a news report sometime last week or so about a man throwing acid at several ppl in the mall. I remember watching the scene of two ladies with their faces covered with a mask (I think alkaline masks~ looks like those you use for facial!) and being wheeled into an ambulance. Imagine the damage on their faces...

Just imagine a child watching the commercial earlier and thinks it's alright to throw hot coffee on ppl's face... Hot coffee that can cause burns and scars for life...

Anyways, I'm also guessing that their 1 mascot concept must have derived from the 1 Malaysia concept in the first place. Now it's just reversing the idea. How clever is that?!

Shopping trolley

I wonder if this has ever happened to you?

Well, this happened to us some time ago. My mum was confident that no one will take our stuff but only to find that the shopping trolley/ cart was taken instead! Anyways the story goes on as my mum spotted a cart further away with a few items in it. She thought it was that lady who stole her cart so she took that cart and dumped the items out.

Then I heard the lady saying, "Hey, my cart! My cart!" My mum was so furious at that time she didn't bother and just pushed on... I was like !!

It was only a few weeks later when my mum realised it wasn't that lady who stole our cart. It was one of the supermarket workers who was so damn lazy to get a cart outside so he just took ours and used it to transport the stock/ items to be stacked. After all, who would want to lift a 10kg bag of rice out of a trolley in the first place??!!

When my mum was saying on top of her voice that someone stole her cart the worker's facial expression said it all... Yes, he had that guilt face and pretended that nothing happened.

So, lesson to learn? Guard everything with your life!

The idea of the arrows came from a Singapore film called, "Just follow law" staring Gurmit Singh. In the film, the arrows were the flying e-mails back and forth the government depts. Thought it would be appropriate for this strip. Hope you guys like it.

Must say I did make a mistake by drawing the ppl in the second panel almost similar to the ones in the first panel... It looked like the same ppl went out to rob ppl after office hours! So had to add in some words to make it look like a diff group of ppl... oh well. I shouldn't be explaining the comic!! Enjoy!

Lift waiting

Waiting is something all of us experience in one way or another...

I wanted to draw this scene months earlier, but I never gotten around to it. So I finally did, and maybe because I wasn't really in a good mood today, so I actually think this drawing sucks monki balls.. (Pardon me for my language)

Well, to elaborate on the drawing scene~some months ago... It was after my doc appointment and we went to this mall for lunch and the lift was super damn f* slow and it was quite a run-down mall... Not to mention the lift area...creepy I was damn angry waiting and about to lose it (I tried to draw Donald Duck's tantrum but it sucked so stick man for you.. ) meanwhile mum was worried about being mugged in the lift by the two guys on the left Dad was like uh...I dunno (I couldn't draw my dad properly too )

I guess the mood behind this drawing does somewhat tie in with the present feeling of waiting... Waiting for dunno what...getting more and more depressed, easily irritated, annoyed, snappy...

p/s: Btw,if you're wondering what we're holding~ plastic bags (our groceries) I forgot to put some logo on it...

Oh yes...the Hong Kong TVB drama serials again... Well, we just found out that we have a 1 month free viewing of the 'Astro on Demand' pack! Yup, apparently no one is subscribing to it so they've decided to award some a-hem 'loyal' customers (As if we had any choice ) with it.

As you prolly have guessed, my mum was the happiest person in the house A belated Mother's Day gift from Astro I guess... but I still think they're pretty crappy since we only knew about it yesterday and the month of June has already started...so we missed about 1 wk's worth of shows...

And yup, when tv shows don't add up... TVB should seriously consider hiring more critical ppl man...

Well, this was our reaction when both of us were watching Take Home Chef~ hosted by chef Curtis Stone (I shall spare the details of the show )

There was this part where Curtis Stone gets some presents for the lady he's helping to cook for (usually cooking utensils in case the lady does not have it)

So the background was this as they were pulling out of the carpark and mum and I were like ooohhh!!! Yup, she was ooh-ing the cooking store and I saw Toys r us on the opposite...

I wonder if they purposely built these two side by side, just for the parents to go shopping in the cook store and the kids to play in TRU...

Ah. Ignore the deviation title... I was stumped on what to name it. Anyways this is my response to the rising food crisis in my country...

It started with sugar, then flour, cooking oil and now rice. All has resulted in some sort of frenzy buying... and the latest is rice. Now a bag of 10kg rice costs RM50~(about USD 15.60) (the premium rice) which used to cost RM35.

And yes, there was a lady who was yelling in the supermarket over the price increase on her mobile. Seriously.

Torch bearers redefined

The Olympic torch relay came and left. It is indeed great honour to have the torch touch down on our shores this time around.

I always thought that the honour to be the torch relay~ torch bearers were only given to athletes, past/present greats, sportsman/woman who has contributed/ represented the country in any sport.

I'm wondering now, since when did our astronaut/space tourist and ex-celebrities became known as sportsman/woman??!!

Note: I have nothing against the Olympics, Beijing 2008 or even my country hosting the torch relay.

Well, the story is like this I was about to have my breakfast when I saw this very annoying lizard...

I decided to 'rebus' it (in English it means boil but it doesn't sound right so 'kill' would be better ) by pouring hot water from a thermos flask... and you guessed right. The lizard escaped unhurt and I made a mess ... My mum hit the roof, gave me a shellin' and declared a cold war on me...

Sigh.

Not easy to let go

To be honest, I've never skated before. But I thought of this scene when I was goin through my old sketches (yup, you'll be seeing them soon! )

It was for a line/statement which my friend said some years back while we were driving around in the car park looking for a parking space We were having this conversation about goin to see the world/become a missionary person-like... So he said to me, "You've got to be brave,man! If not, you'll just be like now goin to the mall and back..."

I didn't reply him then. I knew that he wouldn't understand ~ Not everyone can just leave everything and go. Esp. in our Asian culture, once you leave your position, another 10 ppl are ready to fill your job. It's really tough. And it was also about finances, how are you goin to support yourself? Your family? Most of us have to support our families~ when parents retire...

And in my case, my health. My doc appointments need to be kept. And thank the Lord, at least for now I don't have to take my med.

So his statement has always been in my mind...and I've finally found a way to reply him: that it's definitely not easy to let go...

There was another news days earlier about parking meters installed having the instructions all in Dutch. The fact was that the officials didn't know about it at all and said they will send someone to look into it.
