Yup, the lightning usually wins. 
One recent thunderstorm/ lightning strike took out my house alarm and several electrical items. 
Have to spend more money 
to fix them... 
Oh well, I guess anyone who lives in the tropics will definitely tell you that they have had something fried by lightning strike at some point in their life..
